The Orillia Concert Band is celebrating 40 Years of Music

Save the Date! Big Concert Coming Up! Get your tickets now!

On Saturday, May 2, St. Paul’s Centre will be alive with music and memories.

The Orillia Concert Band is celebrating 40 Years of playing great music together and sharing with Orillia and the surrounding area.

It was 1986 when Stan Passfield took on the challenge of creating a community concert band and finding a worthy founding conductor in the person of Bob Plunkett. Bob’s family will be attending in force on May 2. We will have all 3 of our remaining past conductors with usand each one will be leading us through a piece of their choice. Of course our own Randy Hoover will be at the helm. Randy will join the trumpet section while Stan Passfield conducts us, then Roy Menagh, and then James Hilts. Our repertoire will include some compositions by Orillia’s very own, much-loved
Suds Sutherland. Christina Bosco will be our soloist and our MC!

The St. Paul’s Pub Committee will be making refreshments available (cash only) before and after the concert, and during intermission. We can’t wait to have the chance to visit, laugh and thank past Orillia Concert Band players and our wonderful audience for your amazing support and all the fun over the years!

Ticket prices are:

Adult: $25

Seniors (60+): $20

Post-Secondary Students: $15

Youth (5-18): $10

Children under 5 free.

Tickets are available online at www.orilliaconcertband.com or cash at the door.

Travel to Scotland with the Orillia Silver Band! Highland Fling Concert

The Orillia Silver Band is taking an exciting trip to Scotland and invites the public to come along with its Highland Fling Concert.  The concert takes place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, 7:00 pm at St.Paul's Centre in Orillia.

Our Highland Fling Concert is concepted as a multimedia event, including wonderful music evocative of the Scottish Highlands along with simultaneously projected pictures and video clips of the places we’ll visit together on our musical trip.

The concert opens with The Swing ‘O The Kilt by composer Montague Ewing, a tune that will get us all dancing Highland favourites right from the start.

The centrepiece of the concert is the towering Hymn of the Highlands by composer Philip Sparke.  This seven-movement work is a tour-de-force for brass band and is a terrific soundscape of the sights of the Scottish Highlands.  Our tour includes stops at Ardross Castle, The Summer Isles, the forest of Flowerdale, the village of Strathcarron for a traditional sword dance, the village of Lairg Muir, the river Alladale, and the charming village of Dundonnell.  The full work provides opportunities for the entire band to show its musical skills as well as occasions for many of the band’s fine soloists to come to centre-stage.

The concert wraps up with the scintillating Gaelforce by Peter Graham, a work that employs three traditional Gaelic tunes to showcase both solo voices and the entire band.

Please put this exciting multi-media concert on your calendar.  Your support and encouragement of the band is always greatly appreciated!

We invite any who care deeply about this issue to join us in this webinar sponsored by the Shining Waters Region. You may sign up on your own and participate from the comfort (and warmth) of your own home, or you can join a group of us in the Banquet Hall where we will watch the Roundtable on the big screen, and have the opportunity to have a face-to-face conversation with the people who are present in the room.
